Linear
File support requests as Linear issues and sync later replies as comments.
The Linear integration turns support requests into Linear issues. Once a request is filed, every later reply on it is posted to the Linear issue as a comment, so engineers can follow the conversation without leaving Linear.
Open Integrations in the dashboard sidebar to set it up.
What it does
| Feature | What happens |
|---|---|
| Send mode | Each support page sends new requests to Linear automatically as they arrive, or manually when you choose to |
| Send to Linear | Send any request from its detail screen, with your own title, description and destination |
| Comment sync | Replies added after a request is filed are posted to the Linear issue as comments, with a link back to the request |
Sync is one way. Comments, status changes and edits made in Linear are not pulled back into SupportPage.
Connecting your workspace
- Open Integrations and click Connect Linear.
- Linear asks you to approve access. If you belong to several workspaces, pick the one to connect.
- Approve all requested permissions and Linear sends you back to SupportPage.
SupportPage asks for permission to read your workspace's teams, projects, statuses, labels and members, and to create issues and comments. It can't edit or delete anything in Linear. Your Linear credentials are stored encrypted and never sent to the browser.
If you uncheck any permission on Linear's approval screen, the connection is rejected. Start again and leave every permission selected.
Each account connects one Linear workspace. Once connected, the Integrations screen shows the workspace, the Linear account that connected it, when it was connected, and the last successful sync.
Sending requests to Linear
After connecting, the Sending requests to Linear card lets you choose how requests submitted to the selected support page become Linear issues, and where they're filed.
Choose a send mode
Under Send new requests to Linear, pick one:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Automatically | A Linear issue is created for every new request as it arrives |
| Manually | Nothing is filed on arrival. You choose which requests to send with Send to Linear on the request screen |
Pick Automatically when every request needs engineering follow-up. Pick Manually when you want to triage first and only escalate real bugs or feature requests.
Choose a default destination
Set where issues go:
- Team (required)
- Project
- Status
- Labels
- Priority (No priority, Urgent, High, Medium or Low)
- Assignee
In automatic mode, new issues are filed here. In manual mode, the destination prefills the Send to Linear form, and you can change it for each request.
Click Save settings to apply. Remove settings clears the mode and destination for this support page; your Linear connection stays in place.
Settings are saved per support page. If you run multiple pages, each one can send to a different team, or use a different mode.
Sending a single request
Every request's detail screen has a Linear panel. When the request isn't linked to Linear yet, click Send to Linear to open a form with:
- Title, prefilled with the request's subject
- Description in Markdown, prefilled with the request and the conversation so far
- The destination fields, prefilled from the support page's settings
Edit anything you need and click Send to Linear. This works in either mode, which is handy for requests that arrived before you saved your settings, or that need to go to a different team than usual.
Once linked, the panel shows the Linear issue, whether it was filed automatically or manually, and that replies sync as comments.
Comment sync
After a request is filed, each new reply on it is posted to the Linear issue as a comment with a link back to the request in SupportPage. When you send a request manually, replies written before that point are already in the prefilled description.
When something fails
SupportPage retries automatically if Linear is rate limiting or temporarily unavailable. If an issue or comment still can't be sent:
- The request's Linear panel shows the error and a Retry button.
- The Integrations screen lists recent failures under Sync failures, with a link to each affected request. Open the request to retry once the cause is fixed.
Reconnecting
If Linear revokes access, or the connection expires, the Integrations screen shows Needs reconnect. Click Reconnect Linear and approve access again. Until you do, no issues are created and send settings can't be changed.
Reauthorize runs the same approval again on a healthy connection.
Switching workspaces
If you reconnect to a different Linear workspace, your saved destination no longer applies and nothing is sent automatically. Choose a team in the new workspace and save to start sending again.
Disconnecting
Click Disconnect on the Integrations screen. SupportPage revokes its access in Linear and deletes the stored connection. Issues already created stay in Linear.
Anything still waiting to be sent is marked as failed, so you can retry it from the request after reconnecting.
